The largest amount of all the water consumed worldwide is used by the agricultural sector. The estimated amount of the surface water and groundwater spent on crops irrigation is 60%.
On November 5th and 6th 2020, the Green Water Drone project (www.greenwaterdrone.eu) carried out a general pilot test of its technologies and services, in selected fields at the area of Trifylia, Messenia, with the assistance of “DIRECTORATE OF RURAL ECONOMY AND VETERINARY” (DAOK) of Trifylia and local producers.
On Friday, November 6th, 2020, the GreenWaterDrone project (www.greenwaterdrone.eu) will carry out a large pilot implementation of new technologies in Messenia, with the assistance of the "Department of Rural Economy and Veterinary" (DAOK) in Trifylia.
The GreenWaterDrone project (www.greenwaterdrone.eu) has entered its final phase since the summer of 2020, having now largely completed its technical components, which are related to scientific irrigation needs assessment (CWSI) models, application software, aerial recording platforms and a ground measurement station.
The first in person - after the quarantine - technical meeting of the GreenWaterDrone project, between the working groups of the Agricultural University, the University of Peloponnese and CITE, was successfully completed.

A GreenWaterDrone meeting will be held on the 26th of November 2019, in the premises of Directorate of Rural Economy & Veterinary of Trifylia. In the meeting will be attended by GreenWaterDrone partners, representatives of the Directorate and local producers.
On the 20th Nov 2019, GreenWaterDrone project ground stations recorded rainfall of 88m3 per 1000 m2, in the area of Trifylia.
The installations of the equipment took place in the work fields in Trifylia.
On September 24, 2019, GreenWaterDrone meteorological stations in Fields 1 and 3, in Trifylia, recorded a total rainfall of 38.4 and 64.8 mm, in 2 hours 40 minutes. The distribution of rainfall per 10 minutes is shown in detail in the following table and graph.
The GreenWaterDrone project, “Development and implementation of an innovative and economic system, for the precise & dynamic planning of irrigation and crop monitoring” was presented at the University of Piraeus on September 20, 2019.
In the context of GreenWaterDrone research program, “Development and implementation of an innovative and economic system, for the precise & dynamic planning of irrigation and crop monitoring” several successful test flights were carried out on 18 and 19 June 2019, using two aerial drones (UAV) over the project's experimental fields, in the area of Triphylia.

At first we visited Mr. Charalambos Papadopoulos who showed us the premises (Image. 1, 2) and then discussed details of both cultivation requirements and the installation of the equipment in the field. The cultivation complies with all mandatory criteria and was chosen as the first installation site.

Trifylia was chosen by the Agricultural University of Athens, the TEI of Peloponnese and by private companies for the implementation of a research program that will be directly related to the saving of water in crops.
The area of Trifylia is once again at the center of innovative techniques in crops, as the implementation of a pilot program for the calculation - in real time – of the irrigation needs of crops with the application of modern techniques begins.

Today (Thursday 13/12/2018) was held at the “DIMITRA” Center of the HAO(Hellenic Agricultural Organization) in Kyparissia , a workshop for the information & collection of requirements from producers and agronomists of the province of Trifylia, for the services and technologies that will be piloted in 2019-20 in the area, by the GreenWaterDrone project (www.greenwaterdrone.g
The first official meeting with producers will be held in Kyparissia Peloponnese, in "Dimitra" (Zip Code 24500), on 13th of December 2018, 10:30.
After the official launch of the project, today the work team of GWD project met in Athens University of Agriculture. The meeting aimed the composition of work teams, the assignment and planning of activities and the discussion and exchange of opinions on technological, scientific, business and administrative topics concerning the project.
